Lucia I. Suarez Sang, Fox News NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: All players 'should' stand for national anthem NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on 10/18/2017 made a speech about how he views that "all players “should” stand for the national anthem" — but stopped short of imposing a rule on standing for the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Goodell made this speech to address the concern about players not standing for the national anthem as well as how the players have effected the league's reputation. The speech addresses concerns that the public as well as the P.O.T.U.S has with players disrespecting the flag by not standing.
The tone of the passage is very serious as it addresses a very serious topic as well as it also includes president Trump's comment of "Too much talk, not enough action. Stand for the National Anthem." meaning that he was listening to the speech. Goodell said "“The current dispute over the national anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country,” he wrote last week. “Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the national anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us.”"
